Why another food safety app?

Paper failed kitchens
that were trying.

Do the work. Your records are saved as you go.

Busy people forget. Inspectors ask for records. Clipboards go missing.

So the app puts each check at the moment of the work. Each record is saved when it is made, and the inspection binder is built from them.

We also explain the rules, not only track them: why the Food Code says 41°F, 135°F and 165°F, with the science and charts you can move.

See it work

Two minutes with the real screens tells you more than this page can.

Where do the rules come from?

Every check names
the rule it comes from.

From the 2022 FDA Food Code, which Utah uses (Utah Rule R392-100), and from Utah Code. Each check shows its section. This is not the full Food Code, and it is not legal advice.

  • Hot and cold holding

Hot 135°F or above and cold 41°F or below, except a whole roast cooked on the roast chart (130°F or above, not on a food truck), raw shell eggs (the air around them 45°F or below) and food marked under time control (Food Code 3-501.19, 4 hours, not on a food truck). Food carried to an event is probed at loading and on arrival.

    Food Code 3-501.16, 3-501.19; R392-102-12(6)

What are the hot and cold holding temperatures?
  • Cooling

135°F to 70°F within 2 hours, then to 41°F within 6 hours total.

Food Code 3-501.14, 3-501.15; R392-102-12(5) (trucks: at the commissary)

How fast do you have to cool cooked food?
  • Handwashing

Wash hands and forearms 20 seconds at a handwashing sink only; double wash after the restroom; sanitizer never replaces washing.

    Food Code 2-301.12, 2-301.14, 2-301.15, 2-301.16, 5-202.12; R392-102-14(4)–(8)

How long should food workers wash their hands?
  • Utah food handler permit

Food handlers finish an approved course within 14 days of starting and get a county permit within 30 days. Valid 3 years.

    Utah Code 26B-7-413; R392-103; R392-102-4(14)

Does your county differ? 3 of Utah's 13 health departments do

Utah law: course by day 14, permit by day 30, valid statewide. Southwest Utah: their page says get the permit before handling food. Southwest Utah food page

Utah law: a permit from any Utah health department is valid statewide. Summit County: check with them (their Code says they "may" accept another county's card). Summit County Code of Health §1-6-5(A)(3)

Utah law: course by day 14, permit by day 30, valid statewide. Weber-Morgan: their regulation says have the permit before you start work. Weber-Morgan Food Service Sanitation Regulation §6.20 (2-103.12(B))

Do you need a food handler permit in Utah?

Read the library

The guides show the same rules in longer, plain words.

How do you decide what goes in?

How we
work.

  • Plain words. Short sentences. The words you say at the counter.
  • Every rule says where it comes from. When it is only our suggestion, it says so.
  • This site says only what the app does today.
  • Every screen is walked the way a tired worker would walk it, one step at a time.
  • Every claim on this site points to the code that proves it.

How we test for access

See how the app is tested, and the gaps still open.

What will you not do?

What we
do not do.

No apology, only the list.

  • Reminders: in a browser once you say yes when the app asks, and by email for people who choose it, once our email service is on. On the iPhone app once phone reminders are turned on. It does not send texts itself; texts will go through our sister app Hit Em Up, from your own phone, when it ships.
  • It does not text your staff. Your own phone sends any invite.
  • It does not order supplies for you.
  • It does not read a sensor. You type or say each reading.
  • It is guidance and record keeping, not legal advice. Your health department decides what applies to you.
  • No outside team has tested it for weak spots.
