The problem

Why can't you
walk over and look?

  • Your time

You can't watch every shift. You are on the line, at the bank or asleep.

  • Busy days

On a busy day, the walk-in temperature is the first thing nobody writes down. Then no one can tell if it was taken. In Los Angeles County, the inspector's grade goes on your door.

  • Your reason

You opened to feed people, not to watch a clipboard.

Your day

So what does
your day look like?

Here is one day. It is an example, not a customer.

  1. Open the app

Today says Open for food: Yes, or Not yet with the thermometer, fridge or sanitizer still missing.

  2. Nothing needs you

The list is short when the fridge and sanitizer readings are in.

  3. One fix is waiting

It sits under To fix, by how urgent it is, with its name on it.

  4. One screen for the day

Close of day lists what was missed, the problems, and Who did what.

Who sees what

What do you and your people
each see?

You get five tabs. Your staff get five different ones. Nobody sees more than the job needs, even by typing the address.

You set up the roles in the first minutes.

  • Owner and manager: Today, Team, Checks, Report, More
  • Staff: Today, Checks, Report, Learn, Profile
  • Admin: Today, Team, Checks, Report, More

Admins see the same tabs as managers. Settings and billing sit under More. Staff and managers get no billing screens.

That is the whole team, set up once.

The price

What does it
cost me?

One price a month per location, set by how many people are on your staff list. Every feature is in every plan.

  • Solo (1 to 2 people): $8 a month per location
  • Small (3 to 6): $24 a month per location
  • Team (7 to 12): $40 a month per location
  • Kitchen (13 or more): $69 a month per location
  • Church or community kitchen: $19 a month per building

You add a card on Stripe's own page. Reading paper sheets from photos is optional, at $6 per person.

When you type a name to invite, the invite screen shows what your plan becomes once they join.

True answers

Will my people tell the truth
if I can see it?

You see whether someone can work, not what they answered. That is so people can answer plainly.

Your staff read what they are told before they answer. You get what to do: OK to work or No food work today. California asks the person in charge to tell the county environmental health office about a diagnosed Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli (STEC), hepatitis A or norovirus. Two or more workers with a stomach illness at once: the same call (HSC 113949.5). The law names no hour count: call right away.

Inspection day

And when the
inspector walks in?

You hand over one PDF. It holds your permits, your manager certificate, any warm readings with the fix, and the temperature tables. It starts at the last 90 days.

It is a plain PDF of your records. Nobody signs or stamps it, and it does not predict how an inspection goes. Each rule names its California source, the Health and Safety Code section, and where your county adds something. In Los Angeles County a letter card hangs where customers see it: A is 90 to 100, B is 80 to 89, C is 70 to 79. San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial and Kern counties grade too. Sacramento, San Francisco and others post a green, yellow or red placard. Everywhere, a notice says your latest report is available (HSC 113725.1). The county grades; we keep the record. With two places, each has its own binder.

The binder is filling from your first reading.

So what changes?

Close the door
knowing.

You look at one screen. It says which readings are in, which are late, and who can fix it. Then you go home.

Managers can also run the shift. See how it works, the other jobs and places in California, or how to open a food business in your county.

Questions

Before you
start.

Will I get an alert if something is missed?

In a browser, yes, once you say yes when the app asks. CleanCleaver sends no texts. A late reading also shows on Today when you open the app, with who can fix it.

What signs go on the wall in California?

Your health permit, where customers see it (HSC 114381). A wash-your-hands sign at every hand sink (HSC 113953.5). A notice that your latest inspection report is here for customers to read (HSC 113725.1). "No smoking" at each entrance (Labor Code 6404.5). With 10 or more employees, counting part-time, the Prop 65 food warning goes up (27 CCR 25607.5). One of three ways. An 8½ by 11 sign at each public entrance. A 5 by 5 sign at each register. Or the warning on your menu. Serving alcohol adds the Prop 65 alcohol warning (27 CCR 25607.3). Where your county grades, the grade card or placard where the inspector puts it. The app lists each sign and prints the Prop 65 ones with the regulation's exact words.

Do I need a certified food protection manager?

Yes. At least one owner or employee at each food facility holds a food protection manager certificate from an accredited exam (HSC 113947.1). A new place, a new owner, or a place that lost its certified person has 60 days. The certificate lasts 5 years (HSC 113947.3). The app keeps the certificate on file, and the binder lists it.

A worker got hurt. Who do I call?

California runs its own plan, Cal/OSHA. A death, or a serious injury or illness at work, is reported right away, never later than 8 hours (8 CCR 342). You call the Cal/OSHA district office for your job site. There is no single statewide number. Los Angeles (213) 576-7451, San Diego (619) 767-2280, Sacramento (916) 263-2800, Santa Ana (714) 558-4451. The district office list has the rest. The app keeps the injury report with the time and who wrote it.

What does it cost?

Solo (1 to 2 people) is $8 a month. Small (3 to 6) is $24. Team (7 to 12) is $40. Kitchen (13 or more) is $69. Churches pay $19 per building. The 25 free days start when you add a card on Stripe's page. Cancel before they end and you pay nothing. 25 days free. Cancel anytime.

Can my staff see billing?

No. Staff and managers get no billing screens. Admins and owners do.

Can I read my staff's health answers?

No. You see whether they are OK to work. The answers are stored, and the screens hide them from managers and owners.

Is the binder signed or stamped by anyone?

No. It is a plain PDF of your records, for you to hand over.

I have two locations.

Each location has its own binder.
